Honeyed evening light strikes the weathered concrete structure from behind, casting the sluice gate slot into a stark black silhouette. The interior of the narrow vertical opening glows with intense orange rust stains that climb the metal edges. Thick ground fog pools in the depression below the concrete base, obscuring the ground and softening the transition from the heavy infrastructure to the earth. The composition remains perfectly symmetrical, showing the monumental weight of the storm surge barrier. The rough texture of the aged concrete contrasts with the smooth, glowing orange stain within the dark void. A sharp line of rust color marks the bottom edge where the metal meets the shadowed concrete.
