Mirage Reflections on Desert Ridge Above Tucson
Low morning light strikes the horizon haze, turning the distant layered foothills into shimmering vertical streaks of gold and violet. A heat haze rises from the dry earth, blurring the boundary between the rocky ridge and the sky. The foreground slope reflects this distorted light, creating a symmetrical composition where the ground mirrors the atmospheric distortion above. Sparse, wind-sculpted creosote bushes rest on the reddish gravel, their gray-green leaves sharp against the soft, wavering background. The turn of seasons is visible in the pale dust coating the stones and the brittle, bleached stems of dried grass. Shadows stretch long and thin across the uneven terrain, showing the steep drop-off of the ridge. A faint, liquid-like band of light ripples along the base of the distant mountains, completing the mirrored effect.
