Mexican Steppe Ridge Under Noon Sun After Storm in from a ridge above layered foothills in Mexico

Mexican Steppe Ridge Under Noon Sun After Storm

by Jenny Callahan

Bright white light floods a vast steppe landscape from a high ridge, flattening shadows and exposing the dry, dusty earth in sharp detail. Layers of foothills recede into the distance, their muted greens and browns softened by the clearing haze following a storm. The ground appears parched and textured with small stones, while the sky above is a pale, washed-out blue with faint wisps of evaporating cloud. Sparse, hardy shrubs dot the terrain, their leaves dull and gray-green against the sun-bleached soil. The perspective looks down from the ridge, showing the sheer scale of the geologic formations and the endless expanse of the Mexican plateau. A thin line of white mist rests on the lowest valley floor, marking the boundary between the high ridge and the distant hills.
