Pale garden eels rise from a sandy reef slope near Denpasar, their translucent bodies illuminated by a stark rim light against deep shadow. The water holds a soft plankton haze that blurs the coral wall in the background. Every eel casts a shadow that points directly toward the light source, an impossible reversal that anchors the surreal quality of the moment. Cool tones dominate the scene, with the blue water fading into darkness above the sandy floor. The shadows stretch backward against the light, creating a visual paradox where darkness flows upstream. A cluster of eels stands rigid, their fins catching the edge of the glow while their elongated shadows reach toward the brightness.
