Marriage License Queue Under Portraits in Santiago Gym

Deep shadows occupy the lower half of a civic gymnasium in Santiago de los Caballeros as twilight settles. A line of people stands beneath framed portraits of former officials mounted high on cinder block walls. Faint rim light from the outside catches the edges of the portraits and the top of heads in the queue. Rain streaks the high windows, marking the monsoon season against the dark glass. Wooden benches line the perimeter where others wait. The queue stretches diagonally across the concrete floor, aligning with the rule of thirds. At the edge of the frame, a wet reflection of a window frame rests on the polished floor near the front row.
