Soft overcast light from a late summer drizzle diffuses across a long queue of people standing beneath the heavy floodlights of a government building in Lijiang. Framed portraits of council members hang on the gray stone wall, watching the line stretch past them. Rain glistens on the wet pavement, reflecting the cool white glow of the overhead lamps. Individuals hold documents and stand close together, their clothing damp and darkened by the moisture. The architecture features traditional stone textures and dark wooden beams characteristic of the region. A wet stone step in the foreground catches a sharp highlight from the floodlight, anchoring the deep perspective of the waiting crowd.
