Ice Storm Coating Branches at Golden Hour in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads in Iceland

Ice Storm Coating Branches at Golden Hour

by Cedric Huff

Thick layers of clear ice encrust every twig, transforming bare branches into rigid, glass-like sculptures that catch the final amber glow of the sun. Below the frozen canopy, a horizon of stacked thunderheads rises in dark, heavy bands, contrasting sharply with the warm light hitting the foreground. The early spring thaw does not melt the ice; instead, the branches remain suspended in a state of frozen suspension against the overcast sky. Diagonal lines of ice-laden limbs stretch across the frame, creating a sharp tension between the delicate wood and the solid weight of the storm. The light fades rapidly, leaving a sharp edge of gold on the ice surface before the shadows deepen into the dark gray of the approaching night.
