Ice Coated Branches in Icelandic Fog in through low marine fog in Iceland

Ice Coated Branches in Icelandic Fog

by Helen Pollard

Copper-toned light falls through thick marine fog, illuminating a cluster of tree branches heavily encased in clear ice. The glassy coating transforms every twig into a solid, translucent sculpture that catches the backlit glow of the midnight sun. Fine mist hangs in the air, softening the background into a uniform gray wash while the frozen limbs stand out in sharp silhouette. The texture of the ice appears smooth and brittle, reflecting the ambient light without breaking. Delicate ice shards hang from the tips, catching the glow against the dark, wet wood. A small patch of green moss remains visible beneath the frost on the lower trunk.
