Norwegian Winter Ice Storm Golden Hour Light in in Norway

Norwegian Winter Ice Storm Golden Hour Light

by Wayne Wooten

Low-hanging gray clouds press against a sky turning deep orange near the horizon. Ancient pine branches stretch across the frame, their needles and twigs encased in thick, translucent sheets of ice. The frozen surfaces catch the dying firelight of the setting sun, creating sharp, glassy reflections that contrast with the dull, matte texture of the snow-covered ground below. The light warms the icy edges while leaving the deep crevices in shadow. Heavy layers of rime ice rest on the bark, weighing down the limbs until they curve toward the earth. One branch in the foreground displays jagged ice crystals that fracture the golden glow into tiny, sharp prisms.
