Goliath Frog by West African Waterfall in beside a tidal inlet near Kathmandu

Goliath Frog by West African Waterfall

by Carla Lyons

Mottled green and brown skin covers the massive bulk of a Goliath frog resting on a wet rock. The amphibian sits motionless beside a churning tidal inlet, its throat pouch slightly inflated. Low sun strikes the horizon haze, casting long shadows across the damp surface. Wind whips through nearby vegetation, bending slender stalks against the stone. Late spring light falls through the mist, highlighting the texture of the frog's warty skin and the frothy white water rushing nearby. Droplets rest on the edges of the rocks, reflecting the pale morning glow. The creature remains perfectly still, a patient predator waiting in the spray.
