Fog Parting Over Gabon Hilltop Village in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads in Gabon

Fog Parting Over Gabon Hilltop Village

by Louise Mathis

Thick white fog tears open across the sky, revealing a cluster of structures perched atop a green ridge in Gabon. Below, a horizon line of stacked thunderheads stretches endlessly, their gray bases heavy and flat under the noon sun. The light remains soft and diffused despite the midday hour, filtering through the breaking clouds to illuminate the village rooftops. Strong winds whip through the scene, bending the tall grasses on the hillside and blurring the edges of the mist. The village buildings sit tightly packed, their earth-toned walls against the vibrant vegetation. A final shadow falls across the lowest tier of the thunderheads, marking the depth between the sky and the land.
