Flying Gecko Gliding Between Trees at Dawn in Libya

by Earl Barton

Soft overcast light washes the Libyan landscape at nautical dawn, turning early autumn leaves into muted shades of olive and faded gold. A flying gecko stretches its lateral skin flaps mid-air, suspended between the rough, grey-barked branches of ancient trees. The sky above remains a perfect, pale blue, devoid of clouds, against the deep shadows beneath the canopy. The air remains still around the gliding reptile. The gecko's pale underbelly catches the faint morning brightness as it descends toward a lower limb. Its claws grip the bark, leaving a sharp silhouette against the soft, hazy background of the dry scrubland.
