Sugar Glider Leaping Eucalyptus Late Afternoon
by Lance Garcia
Hard coastal glare slices through the canopy near Guiglo, illuminating the turn of seasons where eucalyptus leaves show patches of fresh green against dried brown. A sugar glider stretches its gliding membrane mid-air, suspended between two textured branches. The animal's dark fur contrasts sharply with the bleached bark and the bright, washed-out sky visible through the storm-clearing gaps. Sunlight strikes the wet underside of a leaf, creating a slick, reflective surface that catches the harsh light. The creature's limbs are fully extended, showing the precise moment of transit against the rough, peeling bark of the tree trunk. One shadow falls across the lower branch, at the base of the leap in the physical reality of the forest floor below.
