Tokay Gecko Silhouette Calling from Dubai Crevice

Soft overcast light from an early autumn sun shower washes the weathered sandstone wall near Al Fahidi in Dubai. A tokay gecko rests on the rough masonry, its body outlined in deep shadow against the bright, diffused sky. The animal's mouth is wide open in a call, throat puffed, while raindrops bead on the textured surface of the stone beside it. Wet patches reflect the gray afternoon sky, against the dry, dusty tones of the historic architecture. The gecko's eyes gleam with alert tension, fixed forward as water trickles down the crevice behind its head. One droplet hangs from the edge of a crumbling brick, about to fall.
