Barbados Silo Corridor Beyond Structure in beside exposed structural steel in Barbados

Barbados Silo Corridor Beyond Structure

by Teresa McGowan

Rust eats through the corrugated metal of a forsaken grain silo complex standing beside exposed structural steel in Barbados. Low sun strikes the horizon haze, piercing the light drizzle that coats the weathered surfaces. The sky holds the pale, wet gray of a season turning. Rusted ladders hang vertically, their rungs corroded and useless against the sky. A concrete corridor extends visibly farther than the building that contains it, defying the laws of architecture while remaining grounded in the heavy, utilitarian force of the site. Raindrops rest on the steel beams, reflecting the dim morning light. The impossible hallway stretches into a mist that matches the sea haze on the horizon, ending abruptly in a wall of fog that never resolves.
