Glacial Silt Braided River Aerial Wet Season in far above terraced hillsides in Sri Lanka

Glacial Silt Braided River Aerial Wet Season

by Ralph Montoya

Deep indigo twilight washes over a network of shifting water channels cutting through thick, opaque glacial silt. The riverbed forms a complex web of muddy brown and slate gray threads against the darkening earth. Below, a dense layer of ground fog fills the valleys, obscuring the terraced hillsides of Sri Lanka in a soft white haze. Diagonal lines of the water flow create sharp tension across the frame, guiding the eye from the upper left toward the lower right. Reflected light from the water surface offers the only bright spots in the scene, glowing faintly against the encroaching blue hour shadows. The texture of the silt appears smooth and heavy, against the fluid movement of the streams. At the bottom edge, the fog thickens where it meets the dark silhouette of a distant ridge.
