Decaying Lab Bench in Seychelles Court in through an abandoned ceremonial court near Victoria Seychelles

Decaying Lab Bench in Seychelles Court

by Cathy Gregory

Pale morning light breaks the horizon haze, striking the peeling warning labels on a weathered laboratory bench. The white paint flakes away in jagged strips, revealing gray, pitted surfaces beneath. The bench sits within the stone arches of an abandoned ceremonial court, its concrete floor cracked and stained with damp patches. Low ground fog pools in the hollows between the stone pillars, softening the base of the structure. The turn of the season shows in the sparse, browned vegetation creeping over the stone edges. One torn corner of a yellow label hangs by a thread, catching the low sun. The light casts long, sharp shadows across the rough stone, highlighting the texture of the decay.
