Decaying Judge's Bench in Chongqing Cloister Ruins

Warped wood dominates the foreground where a judge's bench succumbs to moisture, its surface swollen and cracked by damp air trapped among the stones. Dappled sunlight falls through the canopy of nearby leaves, casting shifting patches of gold across the gray rubble of collapsed cloisters. The turn of seasons is evident in the mix of lingering green moss and browning leaves scattered over the stone floor. Layers of depth recede into the distance, revealing more fragments of arches and columns half-swallowed by encroaching vegetation. The texture of the rotting timber contrasts sharply with the rough, weathered stone surrounding it, while a single beam of light highlights the jagged edge of a broken column in the background.
