Dawn Rim Light on Alpine Wildflowers in in a bloom-heavy meadow in British Columbia

Dawn Rim Light on Alpine Wildflowers

by Patsy Welch

Sharp blades of grass and low-lying wildflowers fill the frame in a dense cluster, their surfaces slick with morning dew. The flowers, a mix of purple lupines and yellow glacier lilies, stand in deep shadow while a bright, thin band of golden rim light cuts across their upper edges. Wind whips the stems, blurring their motion slightly against the dark, textured soil beneath. The background dissolves into a soft blur of green and gray, showing the scale of the individual blooms. one drop of water rests on the tip of a violet petal, catching the first light of the day.
