Frost Web Glinting Over Concrete Flowers at Dawn

by Brandy Winters

Cold silver light from the first dawn illuminates a delicate spider web suspended inches above a cracked concrete slab. Tiny droplets of light drizzle rest on the silk threads, turning them into a shimmering lattice of diamonds. From the deep fissures in the gray pavement, vibrant pink and yellow flowers erupt upward, defying the dead of winter. Their petals appear wet and heavy, contrasting sharply with the brittle frost coating the web above. The scene remains still, with the impossible flora rooted firmly in the hard stone while the fragile web hangs in the air, catching the pale morning glow. One droplet slides down a petal edge, reflecting the silver sky.
