Crumbling Viaduct Over Winter Valley at Dawn in under a viaduct of steel and concrete near La Paz

Crumbling Viaduct Over Winter Valley at Dawn

by Brittany McIntyre

Thick winter mist rests on the deep valley floor beneath a massive steel and concrete viaduct that has lost several central spans. The remaining structure looms overhead in gray tones, its rusted girders and cracked concrete piers standing stark against a sky heavy with dramatic, rolling clouds. Pale dawn light falls through the fog, casting a soft, diffused glow on the jagged edges of the broken masonry. Below, dense evergreen trees fill the abyss, their dark green needles against the pale stone. A heavy iron support beam rests precariously on the far left, its surface pitted with age. The low angle emphasizes the sheer scale of the fallen infrastructure against the vast, misty landscape.
