Honeyed evening light washes the steel structure of a massive gantry crane parked above a churning dam spillway in Burundi. Roaring white water crashes against the concrete chute, creating a thick mist that rises into the warm air. Heat shimmer distorts the background where the sun-struck stone meets the sky. The crane's heavy girders cast sharp, dark shadows across the turbulent foam below. Rusty orange paint peels on the metal railings, against the brilliant white of the churning river. In the distance, the silhouette of the dam wall anchors the scene against a fading blue horizon. One droplet of spray rests on the edge of a rusted bolt on the foreground railing.
