Coptic Church Carved in Rock Beside Prayer Wheel Corridor
Cool, pale morning light falls through high windows, casting soft blue tones across the rough-hewn stone walls of a church carved directly into solid rock. The interior reveals a wide panoramic expanse where the natural rock face forms the ceiling and arches. Beside this sacred space, a corridor lined with wooden prayer wheels runs parallel to the stone structure. The midsummer light enters from the east, illuminating dust particles in the air and highlighting the texture of the unpolished granite. Wooden prayer wheels with faded red paint rest against the rock wall, their metal axles catching the dim glow. A narrow shadow falls across the stone floor, separating the carved sanctuary from the corridor path. The surface of the rock shows deep tool marks from the original excavation, against the smooth, varnished wood of the prayer wheels.
