Chiton on Catalonian Reef Wall at Sunset

by Ravi Ward

Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over a cold-water reef edge in Catalonia, illuminating a chiton clinging tightly to a vertical stone wall. The organism's segmented, armor-like shell displays a mosaic of brown and grey tones that merge with the rough, wet rock surface. Above the chiton, the water column remains suspended, filled with tiny particles that glitter like scattered gold dust within the stillness. The water surface reflects the warm sky hues, creating a gradient from deep blue at the bottom to glowing orange near the horizon. Tiny droplets rest on the rock's crevices, catching the fading light in sharp, bright points along the tide pool's edge.
