Caterpillar Silk Gland Thread Blue Hour Niamey
Cool blue twilight washes the tidal inlet near Niamey, where heat haze shimmers above the dark water. In the extreme foreground, a caterpillar anchors itself against a rough, green stem. Its body is segmented and textured, glowing faintly against the deepening shadows. One, glistening thread of silk extrudes from its posterior silk gland, stretching horizontally into the void. The thread catches the last ambient light, appearing as a fine, translucent wire. Beyond the insect, the water reflects the fading sky, while distant reeds stand motionless in the stillness. The fine silk thread hangs taut against the dark, humid air of the turn of seasons.
