Golden afternoon light falls through sparse autumn leaves, casting moving patches of brightness across a caterpillar's segmented body. The creature anchors itself against a dry twig, its rear silk gland swollen and translucent. A fine, glistening thread extrudes from the gland, catching the dappled sunlight as it stretches downward toward a glacial stream visible in the blurred background. Leaves skitter across the frame's edge, disturbed by sudden gusts. The shallow depth of field isolates the insect's texture, highlighting the waxy sheen of its skin and the delicate, almost invisible filament of silk against the cool, gray-blue water rushing below. one drop of moisture rests on the tip of the emerging thread.
