Bison Bull Silhouette in Snowstorm at Durban Reed Bed

Low winter light bleaches the horizon behind a massive bison bull standing in profile. The animal appears as a solid black shape against the bright, hazy sky where the sun drops toward the earth. Heavy snow fills the air, creating a white curtain that obscures the distant prairie. Frost coats every surface, turning the tall reeds beside the bison into rigid white spikes. These reeds form a natural frame around the animal at the edge of the bed. Ice crystals rest on the bison's horns and the tips of the grasses. The ground lies flat and white under the creature's hooves. A sharp reed tip at the right edge holds a frozen droplet of water.
