Steam Rising from Pipe Elbow on Levee Path in along a levee path above floodwater in Northwest Territories

Steam Rising from Pipe Elbow on Levee Path

by Ellis Garrett

Cool blue twilight washes over a rugged levee path where a massive district heating pipe elbow juts from the ground. Thick white steam billows upward from the joint, dissolving into the humid air after rain. Frost rests on the metal chain-link fencing that runs parallel to the pipe, its diamond pattern sharp against the darkening sky. The floodwater below reflects the faint ambient light, creating a mirror of grey and blue. Converging lines of the fence and pipe guide toward a distant vanishing point where the infrastructure disappears into the gloom. Rust stains streak the pipe's surface, against the pristine white frost on the nearby barrier. The scene ends with a close-up of water droplets gathering on a frozen link of the fence.
