Blue Whale Shadow Over Mizoram Monsoon Plaza

by Lauren Cross

Thick monsoon mist rests on the stone plaza as first light pierces the gray sky. A vertical curtain of heavy rain falls from fast-moving cloud bands, turning the ground into a shimmering sheet of gray water. Above the downpour, a massive blue whale swims through the air, its dark blue skin glistening with rain. The creature casts a distinct, elongated shadow across the wet pavement below, merging with the falling droplets. The morning sun catches the edges of the whale's pectoral fin, creating a sharp line of light against the gloom. Puddles on the plaza surface reflect the shadow and the gray sky. The stone slabs appear slick and dark, at the base of the impossible figure in a tangible, gritty environment.
