Cool blue twilight washes over a steeply angled pipeline crossing sign leaning into gusts across a windswept interchange in Mekelle. Raindrops bead on the weathered metal face, catching the dim ambient light while light drizzle blurs the edges of the yellow and black warning symbols. Below, the concrete ramps of the overpass curve into the distance, slick with moisture and reflecting the gray sky. Tall grasses bend sharply to one side, their green stems darkened by the wet season. The sign stands isolated against the vast, empty infrastructure, its bolts and rivets sharp against the softening horizon. One raindrop slides down the vertical support, tracing a path through the grime.
