Silhouetted Copper Mine Headframe at Blue Hour in under gantries and utility towers near Ghardaia

Silhouetted Copper Mine Headframe at Blue Hour

by Owen Cantu

Rust-colored steel beams form a jagged silhouette against a deep indigo sky, the copper mine headframe standing frozen under heavy gantries. Raindrops streak the air, catching the last ambient light as the winding gear remains seized in its vertical stance. Utility towers loom in the background, their geometric lines mirroring the industrial decay of the mining structure. The midsummer heat has not softened the metal, which appears cold and unyielding under the drizzle. A Dutch angle tilt leans the entire frame, making the rigid machinery seem to topple into the dark earth. Water beads on the corroded rivets, creating a sharp contrast between the wet, dark metal and the soft, fading twilight. at the edge is one drop of rain sliding down a vertical I-beam, tracing a path through the accumulated grime.
