Storm Markers Under Busan Bridge at Dawn in under a cable-stayed bridge span in Busan

Storm Markers Under Busan Bridge at Dawn

by Cathy Dennis

Cold silver light washes over concrete sea wall posts standing beneath the massive steel span of a cable-stayed bridge in Busan. Hard sideways rain slashes horizontally, turning the air into a dense curtain of white mist and spray that rests on the wet surfaces. The vertical markers align in a rigid row, their dark metal surfaces slick and reflective against the pale gray dawn sky. Water droplets rest on the edges of the concrete barriers, running in thin, erratic streams down the rough texture. The converging lines of the bridge cables and wall posts draw toward a distant vanishing point where the horizon blurs into the churning sea. One droplet slides slowly down the side of the nearest post, catching the faint morning glow before falling out of sight.
