Atlas Beetle on Austrian Tree at Dawn
by Yuki Johnson
Low sun pierces the horizon haze, casting a pale amber glow across the rough bark of a deciduous tree in an Austrian forest. An atlas beetle dominates the frame, its massive, curved horns rising sharply against the backdrop of low-hanging autumn clouds. The beetle's dark, glossy exoskeleton reflects the dim morning light, highlighting the deep grooves and ridges of its carapace. Surrounding the trunk, fallen leaves in shades of russet and ochre carpet the forest floor, creating a textured bed beneath the insect. The perspective looks upward from the ground, showing the beetle's imposing scale against the soft, gray sky. One shadow stretches across the bark, defined by the angle of the rising light. The scene is still, with the beetle resting firmly on the vertical surface.
