Abandoned Radio Station Ivy Ruin Shikoku Blue Hour

by Maya Martin

Steel-blue twilight settles over a weathered broadcast desk resting against crumbling masonry in Shikoku. Thick ivy climbs the gray stone, its leaves dark and wet under the heavy overcast sky. Two dead microphones hang from rusted stands, their foam covers frayed and stained by years of neglect. The equipment surface reflects the dim ambient light, showing scratches and peeling paint. Layers of depth recede into the shadowed distance where the building meets the encroaching vegetation. One cable lies coiled on the mossy ground near the base of the desk, its plastic sheen faintly visible against the damp earth. The turn of seasons is evident in the mix of green ivy and brown, withered vines clinging to the structure.
