Abandoned Gambian Radio Station in Misty Dawn

by Evelyn Bautista

Misty gray light falls through a dense frame of ivy-clad masonry, revealing a weathered broadcast desk resting on cracked concrete. Two microphones hang motionless from rusted metal stands, their foam covers faded to a dull beige. Green vines climb the rough red brick walls, weaving through gaps where rain once pooled. The cool season air leaves a thin sheen of moisture on the desk surface, reflecting the pale dawn sky. A wooden chair sits tilted against the table, its legs splayed slightly. Behind the equipment, the ivy forms a thick, living curtain that partially obscures the interior darkness. at the edge is one drop of water clinging to the edge of a microphone grille, trembling before falling.
