Twilight Ruin of Beirut Train Station Skylight in along a vine-choked corridor near Gemmayzeh, Beirut

Twilight Ruin of Beirut Train Station Skylight

by Kim Kerr

Steel-blue twilight washes the crumbling stone facade of an abandoned train station along a vine-choked corridor near Gemmayzeh. Jagged shards of glass litter the floor beneath a broken skylight where the night sky bleeds through. Thick ivy strangles the upper archways, its dark leaves trembling in the wind. Rust streaks run down the corrugated metal beams, catching the dim ambient light. The corridor stretches forward with strong leading lines of weathered concrete and rusted railings, drawing toward the darkened ticket booth. Dust swirls in the air currents visible near the shattered roof. One heavy iron bolt lies detached on the ground, its surface pitted and gray.
