Wheat Field Shadow Cloud Kabwe Irrigation in along freshly irrigated rows near Kabwe

Wheat Field Shadow Cloud Kabwe Irrigation

by Annette Atkinson

Wet, dark green wheat stalks stand in straight, freshly irrigated rows along the dusty earth near Kabwe. A massive, soft-edged shadow from a passing cloud stretches across the mid-ground, cutting the bright afternoon light in half. Puddles between the furrows reflect the clearing sky, creating patches of pale blue and grey that contrast with the deep green foliage. The ground glistens with recent rain, while the air above the field remains still. Small clumps of mud rest on the lower stems, and the water in the channels ripples slightly where the wind has not yet settled. One leaf catches the edge of the shadow, turning from vibrant green to a muted, shadowed grey.
