Wet Catwalk Over Fog Valley Patagonia
by Hayley Clark
Steel-blue ambient light washes the narrow metal catwalk, where sleet has left a slick, shimmering sheen on the grating. Tiny droplets rest on the railing and the edges of bolted plates, catching the faint glow of distant city lights rising from the valley floor below. A thick blanket of ground fog obscures the landscape, appearing as a solid, undulating white mass beneath the structure. Small indicator lights embedded in metal housings cast sharp, colored reflections onto the wet surface, creating brief flashes of amber and green against the cold gray tones. The turn of seasons is visible in the bare, rugged terrain peeking through the mist, while the metal itself feels heavy and industrial against the soft, drifting vapor. One rivet near the edge holds a suspended drop of water, trembling slightly before joining the puddle below.
