Deep indigo twilight washes over the interior of a ranch corral in Normandy, casting the steel loading chute into a stark, dark silhouette. Rain slicks the metal grating beneath a cluster of cattle hooves, turning the surface into a mirror that reflects the fading sky. The heavy, wet texture of the steel contrasts with the rough, dark forms of the animal legs standing in a line. Droplets bead on the metal edges, catching the last faint glow of the evening. Autumn leaves scattered on the ground add specks of rust and ochre to the cool blue palette. The leading lines of the chute guide the gaze toward the heavy, patient presence of the livestock waiting in the drizzle.
