Vivid Striped Mineral Bands in Ras al-Khaimah Storm Light

by Janet Colon

Bright midday sun illuminates a storm-bright plain where vivid striped mineral bands stretch across the landscape like a painted rainbow. These zhangye rainbow ridges display layers of red, orange, yellow, and white sediment rising sharply against the sky. Low ground fog pools in the depressions between the colorful ridges, softening the transition from earth to air. The scene features layers of depth receding into the distance, with each ridge line fading slightly into the haze. The early summer light creates sharp contrasts on the rough, eroded surfaces of the mineral deposits. Small patches of dry grass rest on the upper edges of the formations. A distinct shadow falls across the base of the nearest ridge, highlighting the texture of the cracked earth.
