Rolling Monsoon Fog Over Kerala Valley at Dawn in through low marine fog in Kerala

Rolling Monsoon Fog Over Kerala Valley at Dawn

by Meredith Conway

Thick white mist fills the valley floor in Kerala, rising in undulating waves against the dark green slopes of the Western Ghats. Soft, diffused light from the first light of dawn falls through the low marine fog, turning the light drizzle into a shimmering veil resting on the fronds of coconut palms. The diagonal sweep of the fog creates a dynamic tension across the landscape, pushing from the left toward the distant hills. Wet leaves glisten with droplets, reflecting the pale gray sky. A lone stone path winds through the moisture, its surface slick and dark, leading deeper into the dense, wet atmosphere where the air hangs heavy with the weight of the monsoon. Water droplets rest on the edge of a palm frond.
