Tasmanian Hot Spring Mist at Sunrise in across a floodplain after rain in Tasmania

Tasmanian Hot Spring Mist at Sunrise

by Charlotte McClure

Cool gray mist clings to a flat floodplain in Tasmania, obscuring the distant horizon where peak autumn leaves turn russet and gold. A circular hot spring dominates the lower right third, its rim coated in thick, chalky white mineral deposits that contrast with the dark, wet earth. Steam rises steadily from the steaming water, merging with the low-hanging fog before dissipating. The first rays of sunrise break through the haze, casting a pale, warm glow on the mineral crust and the still surface of the water. Wet grass blades near the pool edge reflect the soft light, while the heavy, damp air settles over the landscape in a moment of quiet stillness.
