Toadstool Colony Silhouette on Mossy Boulder in in a bloom-heavy meadow in the Fjords of Norway

Toadstool Colony Silhouette on Mossy Boulder

by Kathy Page

Soft gray light from the midnight sun diffuses through heavy overcast skies, turning a cluster of toadstools into dark silhouettes against the pale horizon. These fungi grow densely on a large, rounded boulder draped in thick emerald moss. The stone rests in a meadow where wildflowers bloom in vibrant patches of purple and yellow, their colors muted by the flat, even illumination. No shadows fall sharply; instead, the light wraps around the rounded caps of the mushrooms and the uneven surface of the rock. Tiny water droplets rest on the moss tips, catching the faint glow of the low sun. The horizon line stretches far behind the boulder, marking the edge of the Norwegian fjord landscape. One glistening droplet on the moss edge reflects the pale sky.
