Surreal Mushroom Grove in Crumbling Slate Quarry

Damp concrete slabs form terraced walls around a flooded pit under the skeletal spans of industrial gantries near El Tigre. Diffused skylight falls through heavy factory dust, casting a gray haze over the scene. Ordinary metal crates and debris sit scattered across the wet ground. Dominating the foreground, massive mushrooms with umbrella-sized caps rise from the damp earth, their surfaces glistening with moisture. The cool season air hangs thick with vapor, clinging to the rough textures of the slate. Sharp shadows define the curvature of the fungal caps against the utilitarian steel beams. One reflection of a gray cap shimmers on the surface of the flooded pit water.
