Rugby Fly Half Kicks Amid Giant Monsoon Mushrooms

Copper-toned low-angle light floods a grassy hillside near Bahir Dar as a rugby fly-half drives forward to kick for touch. The player's muscles tense in disciplined concentration, his boot connecting with the ball just as a spray of turf and grit explodes into the orange air. Surrounding the action, ordinary sports equipment and muddy boots sit among clusters of mushroom caps the size of umbrellas, their gills catching the fading sun. The monsoon season leaves the ground saturated and dark, against the bright orange glow. Dust particles hang suspended in the shafts of light, while the massive fungal structures rise from the earth with solid, unyielding weight. A wet shadow stretches across the mud near the player's trailing cleat.
