Umbrella Mushrooms Grow Under Sorting Belt in at a parcel sorting belt near Kimberley

Umbrella Mushrooms Grow Under Sorting Belt

by Tariq O'Brien

White strip lighting casts a cool glow over a heavy-duty trailer lock bin resting on a concrete floor near a parcel sorting belt. Through sheer curtains, late afternoon sun filters in, creating soft, shifting reflections on the metal surfaces. Clusters of massive mushrooms, their caps the size of umbrellas, sprout directly from the concrete among ordinary shipping crates and tape dispensers. The beige caps contrast with the industrial grey surroundings, their gills visible in sharp detail. Dust motes hang motionless in the light beams. One strip of yellow caution tape runs across the foreground, bordering the fungal growth.
