Snowplow on Black Lava Field at Twilight in beside a fogbound harbor mouth in British Columbia

Snowplow on Black Lava Field at Twilight

by Courtney Soto

Thick indigo twilight wraps a harbor mouth in British Columbia, where a heavy snowplow rests on a field of jagged black lava rock. The vehicle's bodywork is caked with dried mud and patches of frost, contrasting sharply against the dark volcanic stone. Above, stacked clouds hang low, their undersides illuminated by the soft, reflected glow of the water below. The harbor water acts as a mirror, duplicating the snowplow and the cloudy sky in a symmetrical composition. Mist rests on the ground, softening the edges of the lava rocks while the wet surfaces of the truck catch the ambient light. A distinct line of frost traces the lower edge of the plow blade where it meets the cold ground.
