Seismograph Trace and Volcanic Ash in Leh in in Leh

Seismograph Trace and Volcanic Ash in Leh

by Cory McGowan

Distant street lamps cast a cool, amber spill across a corkboard pinned with scientific records in the quiet hours before dawn. One seismograph trace, its inked lines jagged and rhythmic, hangs beside small glass vials filled with gray volcanic ash. The paper edges curl slightly, hinting at the salt wind pushing across the exposed equipment outside. The cork surface shows a rough, porous texture, against the smooth glass of the samples. Negative space frames the board, showing the isolation of the instruments. A faint shadow from the vials stretches across the cork, ending at a frayed corner of the paper.
