Seismograph Trace and Ash Samples on Corkboard

A sheet of graph paper displaying a jagged seismograph trace sits pinned to a textured corkboard beside small glass vials containing dark volcanic ash. Condensation beads form on the cold metal housing of a nearby instrument, catching the flat glare of noon skylight. The ash samples vary in grain size, ranging from fine gray powder to coarse black fragments. The corkboard shows pin marks and slight wear, against the crisp white of the paper chart. Negative space surrounds the arrangement, showing the isolation of the data against the rough background. The light falls evenly, revealing the texture of the cork and the sharp lines of the ink trace without casting deep shadows.
