Scarlet Ibis at New Hampshire Forest Edge Dawn
Soft overcast light spills across a late autumn reed bed, illuminating the vivid crimson plumage of a scarlet ibis standing at the forest edge. The bird's feathers appear wet, catching the pale dawn glow and creating a glossy sheen that contrasts with the dull brown and rust tones of the surrounding dried reeds. A subtle heat haze shimmers just above the damp ground, distorting the distant tree line into soft, wavering shapes. The ibis stands tall in the right third of the view, its long legs partially submerged in the marshy earth. Fine droplets rest on the tips of the nearest reeds, glistening against the muted greens and grays of the background. The texture of the bird's wet neck feathers ripples in the still air, ending in a sharp focus on a single droplet sliding down a primary feather.
